Frequently asked questions

What is Transactional Analysis?

Transactional Analysis is a type of talking therapy that explores an individuals personality and how this has been shaped by experience-particularly those stemming from childhood. It helps develop awareness and understanding of how we relate to ourselves and others. It is a versatile, accessible model for both short and long term therapy.

Is therapy confidential?

I follow the UKCP's code of ethics and professional practice, which requires me to keep the confidentiality of my clients. There are legal and ethical limitations to that confidentiality and circumstances where I will disclose to a third party such as my clinical supervisor. It is my responsibility to notify clients of this when they enter into a therapy agreement.

How long will I need therapy for?

This depends on unique circumstances of every individual. The timeframe will be agreed between us and reviewed along the way.

How do I know if a therapist is qualified?

I recommend finding a therapist who is registered and/ or accredited by a professional body such as UKCP, BACP, NCPS as this means they have met the standards of training and experience required to safely and ethically deliver therapy.

What if I don't feel like you're the right therapist for me?

Having the right support for you is the most important thing. If you don't feel like I am the right person for you, that is ok! In the same way, if I don't feel like I am the right therapist for you, I will be open about this and can help point you in the direction of a therapist/service more suitable.

I have ADHD and may struggle focussing for an hour, what should I do?

That is absolutely fine! Therapy is about you and what you need rather than you feeling like you have to adapt and feel uncomfortable. I have sensory and fidget toys available as well as lego and creative resources (and you are welcome to bring your own). If an hour session is too long for you to manage we can agree on shorter sessions. I will work with you to help create an environment where you can get the most out of therapy.

This is the same for any difficulty, any person may face- I want to help reduce barriers to accessing support.

Do you just offer talking therapy?

Predominantly, yes. I do offer the use of creative resources alongside it, such as sand tray, art and visual aids- when appropriate and relevant.
